Exeter Chamber to Partner with NH Health Cost Initiative to Tackle Rising Healthcare Costs

Beginning in July, the Exeter Area Chamber of Commerce is joining forces with the New Hampshire Health Cost Initiative (NHHCI) to examine the escalating cost of healthcare  impacting local businesses. This aims to engage local chamber members in meaningful discussions about the economic implications of rising healthcare costs and to explore potential solutions to improve access and affordability.

Understanding the Challenge

Healthcare costs in New Hampshire are increasing at a rate that surpasses wage growth and the national average. Small businesses face unique challenges in offering health benefits, affecting their competitiveness and employee retention.

To address these concerns, the Exeter Chamber and NHHCI will undertake and implement several activities to engage our members:

  • Conduct a survey to gather data on employer health benefits and the impact of healthcare costs on local businesses and their employees.
  • Organize a forum where members can discuss their challenges with health policy experts and share experiences related to healthcare expenses.
  • Explore broader issues shaping the regional health care economy such as hospital consolidation and its impact on healthcare access and pricing.

A Collaborative Approach to Economic Health

This partnership offers a collaborative opportunity to bring resources and expertise to Exeter for analyzing and addressing complex issues like healthcare affordability and hospital consolidation. By engaging directly with business owners and stakeholders, the Exeter Chamber and NHHCI partners will help deepen community knowledge and accountability and develop strategies to alleviate financial pressures on local businesses. Lower costs and better access will improve the overall health and well-being of our community and our economy.
